Bronze medalist of the Olympic Games 2016, a Kazakhstani Alexander Zaychikov, commented on the changes in the rules of weightlifting competitions and qualifications for the Olympic Games.
- There are many new innovations in weightlifting this year, including weight categories. What do you think about it?
- I believe that the weight categories should be updated every Olympic cycle. In my opinion, such a variety will make weightlifting even more interesting. Now I can tell you this: if it’s a choice between weight categories of 100 or 110 kilograms, I’ll choose the smaller one.
- But now every athlete needs to get a license on his own ...
- Yes, and it's great, because the athlete will be constantly in sight! If earlier there were only two qualifying starts, now it is expected that their number will increase to six.
Let us remind, that Zaychikov won his Olympic medal in up to 105 kg weight category. He became the winner of the World Championship in the same weight, which was held in Houston (USA) in 2015. Alexander Zaychikov is competing in 109 kg weight category at the World Championships, which will be held in Ashgabat.
